Just found the original Discourse welcome message from back in Jan 2015 so edited that to ensure new users are not confused by two separate welcome posts! 
This required updating quite a few links :).
If you are interested this puts a date on when the site was migrated to the fantastic Discourse engine we are on - January 2015. This may go some way to explaining why old members no longer visit the site, although I presume the domain didn’t change … so it should be easy to find us …
