Draft poll for supplements

I’m thinking of building a poll for supplements people believe have helped them. Please submit your suggestions for inclusion and I will include if there is not significant disagreement

Vitamin b2, b12
Magnesium glycinate
Coq10
Vitamin D
Ginko
Vitamin C

Here is a list of one’s I have tried

Q10 plus really worked well on my brain fog

Maybe include butterbur and feverfew in the poll too.

I’m not sure how you feel about dividing the magnesium into different types as there are so many different kinds. I’ve seen some writing that it may be possible that some types of magnesium help migraine more than others (I think the research is still in early stages). Not to mention I had conflicting information from my doctors. My psychiatrist said to avoid Magnesium oxide as it’s the least absorbed form and most harsh on the stomach, where as my neurologist (who’s a headache specialist) tells people to take magnesium oxide for their migraines. She said the magnesium glycinate I had would be fine too since I already had it. Just food for thought I suppose? Maybe to make it simpler just make magnesium oxide separate from other magnesium forms? What does everyone think about this?

Oh, and what about the supplement combinations like Migravent? I tried that once but not long enough to tell as I think I had a mild allergic reaction to the butterbur. Maybe people can just vote for each supplement individually if they take a combination like Migravent? I don’t know…

Magnesium and CoQ10

Magnesium Chloride - slow release - morning and night
Ginko Biloba
Vit B combination
Grapeseed
Feverfew tincture (drops) when needed - if a I feel a headache coming on…seems to short-circuit it.

These are my daily ‘meds’. Whether they are the reason I have been almost symptom-free or weather the beast is sleeping, I cannot say.

I also take a tissue salt combination that keeps my sinus’s clear. Although I have never been aware of sinus problems, I have found that if I leave this for a few days, I start getting a post nasal drip again, and fuzzy head on occasions. I know that many dispute homeopathic medicine…but it seems to work for me!

For Jess09’s magnesium suggestion, I’d suggest these types:

  • magnesium oxide
  • magnesium citrate
  • magnesium glycinate

Petadolex and Dolovent - both from Linpharma. Saves me a lot of medicine cabinet space.

http://www.petadolex.com/
www.dolovent.com/

These are brands and blends? Can/shouldn’t we keep it to fundamental ingredients for the poll, otherwise it will be far bigger and less intuitive?

Can discuss particular brands in comments?

If you like. These aren’t garden variety multivitamins. These two are specifically for migraine.

Petadolex is a standardized version of butterbur with the liver toxin removed.

Dolovent is a multivitamin made for migraineurs. It contains ingredients (vitamin A, Q10, magnesium and several others) at levels shown in clinical trials to be specifically helpful to migraineurs.

thanks

Anyone else have a passionate view either way? What do people believe would be most useful for users of the site as far as being able to have takeaways from the poll results?

My vote would be to keep it to the individual ingredients, as opposed to manufacturers’ blends. Products come and go (and their formulations can be changed) all the time. Better to stick to the individual ingredients and then people can recommend their favorite “blends” in the comments.

Plus, many products aren’t available in all countries, or their formulations might be different in different countries.

@Manatee , I agree. @flutters We could also put the brands in the ratings category when we implement it (still waiting for that plug-in code to mature a little so we don’t have any issues upgrading) You will be able to showcase, review and rate your helpful products there.

  • Butterbur
  • Calcium
  • Carnitine
  • Coq10
  • Feverfew
  • Ginger
  • Ginko Biloba
  • Grapeseed
  • Lipoic Acid
  • Liquorice
  • Magnesium
  • Omega 3 (e.g. Fish Oil)

  • Probiotics
  • St. John’s Wort
  • Turmeric
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin B2
  • Vitamin B12
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D
  • Zinc

OK, in no particular order - is that a good selection guys? Any ingredient omissions? Have we covered nausea, e.g. Peppermint oil?

Definitely separate Vitamin B2 from Vitamin B12. Two completely different things.

I’ve never seen it called “Q10” but it probably is the same thing as CoQ10. I suggest you list it as:
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)

Vitamin A needs to be there.

Updated the above draft … anymore?

On top of some of the ones listed above I also take:

Potassium
Turmeric
Probiotic

I’ve found these three coupled with CoQ10 and Magnesium really help

@BHMaloney happy to add - could you be specific about the exact Potassium salt you are taking?

And also the probiotic (what strain does it contain). There are different probiotics - there’s one that helps prevent yeast infections in women and my guess is that it’s not the same as the one you are probably taking…
